Zack Snyder
Cast:
Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Jesse Eisenberg, Diana Lane, Gal Gadot
I am a big fan of superhero films, have enjoyed most of them. So because of the entire buzz and the hype, like every other fan I was eagerly waiting for the two superheroes to get together and beat the hell out of each other in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. And guess what? It was such a disappointment! No superhero film till date has been this boring!
The film opens with a flashback,
which shows what Bruce Wayne went through as a child when his parents were murdered
and there is some other snail-paced narration but I can’t bore you as much as the
filmmaker does so let me move on to what happens. Two cities Gotham and Metropolis
are going through some 9/11 kind of destruction, people are confused and so is
the government because they don’t know if Superman is a good guy or a bad guy!
Is he causing destruction or is he helping people? Even the man himself is wondering, if he is good or bad? And that left me confused as well.
The casting has been a bit controversial and I understand why. Ben Affleck is this adult and mature been-there-done-that Bruce Wayne and that’s tough to digest. For me, it doesn’t work because I cannot imagine a stiff Batman who finds it tough to even walk. When he flies, he should look like Batman and not an airplane. And of course, our Man of Steel, Henry Cavill is there to entertain too, he is good, he saves the world and Amy Adams and he does all the right things! At least he tries to! He is a little robotic but he does the job!
Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg) plays the manipulator. He has to pit Batman against Superman and make sure they fight and beat each other to pulp! Trust me it doesn’t take much to pit them against one another. Eisenberg is good in a few parts and annoying in most.
Israeli-born actress Gal Gadot is Wonder Woman and she steals the show. Gadot dominates the screen standing between Batman and Superman! Her presence is electrifying and that’s one of the best scenes of this film.
The final fight between Batman
and Superman for which, most of you will buy the ticket comes after two hours
and it doesn’t last very long, so it’s no compensation for the time you have
spent on your seat! After some blows, Superman tells Batman he is only fighting
to save his mother and that’s about it, their fight is over.
There is absolutely no humor and the film has no good moments, apart from the one I mentioned, which is the arrival of Wonder Woman and that lasts only a few minutes! The film is way too long, too slow and it doesn’t hold your attention.
I
know Snyder loves to destroy things in movies but this time he destroys his own film!
