Stutee Ghosh gives Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation 4 QUINTS OUT OF 5. Here’s why.
The MI franchise is like our favourite restaurant that has been serving us great food for nearly 20 years and has finally re-opened after its fifth renovation. Every renovation… Errr I mean every sequel seems unique in its own right owing to a new director each time. With Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation Christopher McQuarrie brings together the best of the original MI and Ghost Protocol ensuring we have 131 minutes of immense fun!
The story at first glance would seem a lot like a bunch of impossibly good looking fellows taking on a group of impossibly ugly people. But that’s not it. The CIA headed by Alec Baldwin wants the Impossible Mission Force to be disbanding. The IMF couldn’t care less and with Ethan Hunt firmly in the driver’s seat they go around the world to hunt down what they believe is a sinister “Syndicate”. More precisely it’s Sean Harris with his menacing voice playing Solomon Lane being pursued by Tom Cruise and his team.
Never mind the story, what we are interested in is some mouth-watering action and that is exactly what we get with a recipe borrowed from the Marvel Superhero Universe, “Shaken not stirred” in typical James Bond style and marinated with the spices of Fast and Furious . Apart from the scene we saw in the trailer with Tom Cruise hanging mid-air from a plane, there is an electrifying bike chase, breath-taking underwater sequence and the jaw-dropping Opera assassination. All these and more make Rogue Nation a must watch.
Tom Cruise is at the top of his game doing not just the gravity defying stunts but also looking incredible at the ripe age of 53 and we can’t thank him enough for it! Also particularly kind on our eyes is Jeremy Renner who manages to look worried and utterly handsome all at the same time. Simon Pegg with his comic timing and Ving Rhames with his one- liners complete the package. But the one to watch out for is the Bond chick in this Mission Impossible movie – Rebecca Ferguson! She not only kicks up a storm but manages to do so looking smokin’ hot!
Mission Impossible – Rogue Nation has upped the ante as far as action sequences go and we shouldn’t be surprised if it serves as “inspiration” for our own pushing 50 actors! While there is still time for the many Bollywood spin-offs to follow, this latest installment of the Mission Impossible series must be watched without further ado.
