After much speculation, the makers of Yash-starrer KGF Chapter 2 have confirmed Sanjay Dutt will feature in the sequel to 2018 drama KGF Chapter 1. They revealed the look of his character Adheera on 29 July, his 60th birthday. The film mark Sanjay Dutt’s debut in the south Indian film industry.
Director Prashanth Neel had hinted at Adheera in the first instalment though his face was never revealed. Though hungry for power, he gives up his desire to seize the Kolar gold mines, letting his nephew Garuda rule over the area in keeping with the wishes of his elder brother Suryavardhan. When Rocky (played by Yash) murders Garuda, Adheera is free to realise his ambitions. KGF Chapter 2 will see Rocky and Adheera go head to head as they fight to control the gold mines.
In February, Yash had confirmed to The Asian Age that Sanjay Dutt had been approached to play the villain in KGF Chapter 2. He said that had also been offered a role in the first film but turned it down citing a clash of dates. Reportedly Sanjay had refused KGF: Chapter 1 because he wasn’t keen on starring in a regional film. However, its success appears to have prompted him to reconsider his stance. The Hindi version of KGF is the fourth highest grossing dubbed Hindi film in India after Baahubali, Baahubali 2 and 2.0.
