It’s going to be a Petta Pongal in Tamil Nadu come January 2019. Rajinikanth’s new flick, directed by Karthik Subbaraj and starring Vijay Sethupathi, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Simran, Trisha and Bobby Simha promises to deliver.
It’s been a while since Rajinikanth played the ‘Superstar’ on screen. Right fromSivaji (2007) to Endhiran (2010), to Kabali (2015) to Kaala (2016) to 2.0 (2018), Rajinikanth has played multiple avatars, each distinct. But none of them have truly catered to the masses like his films from the 90s.

As Rajinikanth starrer ‘Petta’ releases today, the tickets are already sold out at Kasi Theatre in Chennai till Monday.
Music Director Santhosh Narayanan took to Twitter and wished “huge success” for the team of Petta.
In a tweet he wrote, “Best wishes to my dearest Karthik Subbaraj, Anirudh Ravichander and the energetic team of Petta for a huge success. Thank you dear Thalaivar Rajinikanth sir for constantly changing the game and bringing in such amazing talent.”

Petta director Karthink Subbaraj tweeted that the response to his first film with Rajinikanth was “overwhelming and awesome.” He also requested people to not share film clips or reveal the story.
A viral video on Twitter claims that fans of actor Ajith – whose film Viswasam is clashing with Petta – tore the posters of the Rajinikanth starrer.
