Madhuri Dixit is set to make her digital debut with Netflix. The actor has been cast in a yet untitled family drama that has been written by New York-based writer and director Sri Rao and produced by Karan Johar. According to Madhuri, the series will explore the “lives that people in the entertainment industry lead”.
“I am extremely excited to be making my OTT acting debut. As an artiste, I am always looking out to do work that is creatively fulfilling and that reaches out to maximum number of people. The story is entertaining, gripping, nail-biting, and yet heartwarming and I can’t wait to start shooting for it,” the actor said in a statement.
Madhuri and her husband Sriram Nene have previously produced Marathi film 15 August for Netflix. Set in a chawl, it is a satirical take on the struggles of middle class India. The actor added that OTT platforms have expanded prospects for both creators and performers and allow their work to reach a wider audience. “With the help of OTT platforms, performers and creators have been given another avenue to express their creativity and take on more challenges. It gives us the freedom and flexibility to narrate and showcase stories that need to be told, heard and seen. It is not about big faces anymore, but about big talent,” she said.
In September, Netflix announced a partnership with Karan Johar’s digital content studio Dharmatic Entertainment to create new fiction and non-fiction series and films exclusively for the streaming platform.
