Twinkle Khanna puts the usual Bollywood comebacks to shame. She might not be missed a great deal on the big screen today, but we love this head strong, artistic and articulate side of her, that we’re only just beginning to discover. Remember the dharam sankat she brought upon the nation with her blog, soon after the AIB roast controversy? On Twinkle’s birthday, here’s a closer look at the inspiring woman of substance she really is.

So who is the real Twinkle Khanna aka @mrsfunnybones? She describes herself on Twitter as,

A bona fide member of an ambiguous tribe of the new age Indian woman; heavily armed with the weapons of my choice : Google and lame jokes.

Twinkle Khanna wasn’t looking for all the attention that she suddenly got as Mrs Funnybones. All she really did was ask simple, straightforward and hence difficult questions. She’s become a voice that speaks up about the hypocrisy and the misplaced priorities that we as a nation continue to suffer from. Her dapper writing and ingenious wit now have quite the following on social media.

While Sonakshi Sinha and Karan Johar’s words of encouragement stacked up on her Twitter timeline, Pritish Nandy’s praise really put her blogging skills in perspective.

She’s also quite a funky artist. Few know that in her spare time, she goes painting dead trees across Mumbai with bright graffiti.

With hubby Akshay Kumar by her side, always encouraging her to do what she believes in, Twinkle cheerfully blogs, paints and designs away and believes that nothing except laughter is sacred in life.

Being a star daughter, Twinkle got a royal launch opposite Bobby Deol in Barsaat (1995) and even picked up the Filmfare award for Best Debut that year. Though her brief stint in Bollywood is now a faint memory, the former actress worked with most biggies including Shahrukh Khan, Salman Khan and Sanjay Dutt but never hit big time. Twinkle’s biggest miss was her refusing to play the role of Tina in Karan Johar’s Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998); we all know what that did for Rani Mukerji’s career.

In 2001, post her wedding to Akshay Kumar, she finally quit acting and began to invest her energy in reinventing herself as an interior designer and a very successful one at that.

We’re glad that Twinkle Khanna has effectively broken the mould of the typical Bollywood actress who is not considered intelligent enough to analyse or comment on politics and current affairs. Her blog is a must read if you haven’t discovered it yet. (http://blogs.timesofindia.indiatimes.com/author/twinklekhanna)

Happy Birthday Mrs Funnybones!
