According to a report in ANI, the director of Padmaavat, Sanjay Leela Bhansali has reportedly “filed a plea in filed a plea in Rajasthan High Court appealing for quashing of an FIR in Didwana”. The court has directed the screening of the film for the Court before 23rd January.

Rajasthan CM Vasundhara Raje and Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani have earlier stated that the Deepika Padukone-Ranveer Singh-Shahid Kapoor-starrer won’t be allowed to release in the states of Rajasthan and Gujarat respectively.

According to a report in Outlook India, the petitioner (Sanjay Leela Bhansali) has appealed to the court that since the film’s name has been changed, the “FIR in Didwana has become pointless”. CBFC directed the makers to change the name from Padmavati to Padmaavat ahead of its release.

"We prayed to the court to allow us to release the film in Rajasthan," said the petitioner’s counsel, Nishant Bora.

"We sought some time from the court in order to take instructions from the petitioner and arrange the screening of the film. Allowing our plea, the court adjourned the hearing of the petition till January 23," Bora said to Outlook India.

The FIR was filed with the Didwana police in March 2017 by complainants, Virendra Singh and Nagpal Singh, who sought action against Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh.
