‘Sound of Music’ Actress Heather Menzies-Urich Dies at 68

Menzies-Urich played the third-oldest of the seven von Trapp children in ‘The Sound of Music’.

Actress Heather Menzies-Urich, who played the role of Louisa von Trapp in the 1965 film, The Sound of Music has died at 68.

Heather’s son, Ryan Urich confirmed the news and said that she had recently been diagnosed with brain cancer and died late Sunday in Frankford, Ontario.

“She was an actress, a ballerina and loved living her life to the fullest,” Urich said.

Menzies-Urich played the third-oldest of the seven von Trapp children in the Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer starrer, The Sound of Music.

After her husband lost his battle to cancer in 2002, Menzies Urich founded the Robert Urich Foundation in his name, which raises funds for cancer research.

"After my husband lost his battle on April 16th, 2002, I vowed that I would make it my life's mission to continue to fight for his dream and vision: a world where the word 'cancer' is simply a memory of war we have won," Menzies Urich wrote on the foundation's website.

Heather’s death comes a little over a year after that of I Am Sixteen singer Charmian Carr. She played the eldest Von Trapp daughter, Liesl in The Sound of Music. Charmian died on 17 September 2016 at the age of 73.
