Guess who’s gunning for the next James Bond after Daniel Craig to be a lady? It’s none other than the suave Pierce Brosnan, who’s been in and out of secret agent 007’s shoes. There’s been a lot of debate about the idea of a female taking over as the fictional British spy after Craig is done with the current film, Cary Fukunaga’s No Time to Die.

Brosnan spoke to The Hollywood Reporter at the Deauville Film Festival where he was receiving a career honour and said that it would be exhilarating and exciting to see a woman as James Bond. "Yes! I think we've watched the guys do it for the last 40 years, get out of the way, guys, and put a woman up there. I think it would be exhilarating, it would be exciting,” the 66-year-old actor said.

The actor, however, whether the producers, Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson, who bankroll the franchise, would agree to casting a woman in place of a man for the secret agent’s role. "I don't think that's going to happen with the Broccolis. I don't think that is going to happen under their watch," Brosnan said.

Brosnan also commented that the #MeToo movement would have an impact on how the character of James Bond is shown on screen from now on. "Without question, yes... The #MeToo movement has been relevant and significant and well needed in our society, so they'll have to address that," Brosnan said.

But at the same time, Brosnan supported both Roman Polanski and Woody Allen while speaking to THR.“Mr Polanski and I have worked together, he's a brilliant filmmaker and so is Woody Allen. We celebrate them as filmmakers,” he said. Polanski made an appearance on the red carpet at the Deauville festival and Woody Allen’s film A Rainy Day In New York opened the festival.
