For the first time in nearly three decades, the Oscars would go ahead without a host. According to media reports, the decision was taken after the Kevin Hart debacle.

According to Variety, the producers will select a crop of A-listers to introduce various segments instead of relying on one host to helm the 91st Academy Awards. With the show lined up for 24 February, producers and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the group behind the Oscars, are busy lining up the celebs to host the segments.

Actor-comedian Kevin Hart stepped down as the award show’s host on 5 December after earlier homophobic comments surfaced on social media. He made the announcement on Twitter, and apologised to the LGBTQ community.

“This is because I do not want to be a distraction on a night that should be celebrated by so many amazing talented artists,” Hart wrote. “I sincerely apologize to the LGBTQ community for my insensitive words from my past.”
