Marvel has unveiled the first look of Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow with a teaser trailer. The Cate Shorthand directorial puts the spotlight on the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Russian assassin Natasha Romanoff, and is set during the period in between the events of Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War.

Watch the teaser here:

The character was introduced in 2010 in Iron Man 2 and made appearances in MCU films for nearly a decade before sacrificing herself in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame. The trailer features flashbacks to Natasha’s early life training to be an assassin in the Red Room, an elite KGB programme that was teased in Avengers: Age of Ultron. We also see her reuniting with fellow spy and future Black Widow Yelena Belova. She teams up with Malena (Rachel Weisz), and Alexei (David Harbour), i.e., The Red Guardian, who according to the comics is the Soviet’s equivalent of Captain America. The trailer also offers a brief glimpse of the film’s villain The Taskmaster, a mercenary who can copy and absorb his opponent’s strengths.

Marvel also released a teaser poster for the film.

Black Widow releases in India on 30 April 2020, a day ahead of the USA. It will be released in six languages - English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam.
