Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Endgame is one of the most awaited Hollywood films around the world, and the hype for the film has reached fever pitch in India too.

While Carnival Cinemas has acquired special permission to screen the film 24/7 in some A-tier cities like Mumbai, Delhi and Hyderabad, BookMyShow recorded a peak of 18 ticket bookings a minute on 21 April.

"We expect Avengers: Endgame to break more records as cinemas continue to open the advance bookings,” said Ashish Saksena, Chief Operating Officer, Cinemas, BookMyShow, said in a statement issued on Monday.

The final film of the Avengers series will be the widest release in India for a Hollywood movie, with around 2600 screens in its kitty. The last film in the series, 2018's Avengers: Infinity War, had released in 2000 screens.

While Avengers: Infinity War made approximately Rs31.2 crore on the first day, movie business analyst Atul Mohan says that Avengers: Endgame is expected to surpass the number by a big margin.

“We are looking at the highest collections on day one for any Hollywood movie,” says Atul.

“Avengers: Endgame is expected to earn around Rs 45 crore on the first day. And weekend collections could be around the Rs 150 crore mark. The lifetime collections are expected to be around Rs 350 crore, but it could do even better.”

Avengers: Endgame could thus become the first Rs 300 crore Hollywood hit in India.

The record for the highest lifetime collections for a Hollywood movie is currently held by Avengers: Infinity War, which made approximately Rs 240 crore.

We are definitely looking at the highest first day, opening weekend and lifetime collections for any Hollywood movie ever.

Avengers: Endgame is the 22nd film from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the latest after Captain Marvel, which released last month. The film stars Robert Downey Jr, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson and Brie Larson, among others.

Why Avengers: Endgame is a guaranteed blockbuster in India

The advance ticket sales are proof that Avengers: Endgame is on route to smashing all box office records.

“It's an epic culmination of a decade-long journey which the fans have taken with us across 22 films of the Marvel Cinematic Universe,” said Bikram Duggal, Head, Studio Entertainment, Disney India.

"Around 2.25 lakh tickets have been sold which is about 74 per cent of the capacity for weekend. We have 1000+ shows per day for the movie in over 100 cities. Maximum tickets were sold in Delhi/NCR and Mumbai," Rahul Kadbet, Vice President Programming, Carnival Cinemas, told IANS in an interview on Monday.

Furthermore, the film has two open weeks post its release.

Kalank has not met the expectations so a lot of its shows have been given to Avengers already. We have a couple of small films (Sunny Deol’s Blank and possibly Setters, which has an ensemble cast) on 3 May, but those won't get many screens if Avengers is already performing well. That’s what generally happens,” says Atul.

Student of the Year 2 will release on 10 May.

Avengers: Endgame will release in multiple languages, including Hindi, English, Tamil and Telugu, in India on 26 April.
