The trailer for the much-awaited followup to Avengers: Infinity War a.k.a. Avengers 4 is here along with an official title. The film is now called Avengers: Endgame. Take a look:
Fans have been speculating about the title of the movie ever since the release of Avengers Infinity War. Now we know it’s Endgame and this trailer leans hard on the “end” part.
We see Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr) floating in space and losing all hope. We see Captain America (Chris Evans) and Black Widow (Scarlett Johnsson) trying to understand what happened at the end of Infinity War.
The trailer ends with Ant-Man (Paul Rudd) making his long awaited entrance into Avengers HQ. Reportedly, he will play a big part in the plan to make things right. The trailer is surprisingly low on action. Just compare this to the Avengers: Infinity War trailer, released around the same time last year.
That trailer leaned hard on the action, including scenes from the climactic battle in Wakanda. The Endgame trailer, while being around the same length, has very few money-shots. It’s almost as if Marvel was reluctant to even release a trailer.
Last week, a crazy idea was doing the rounds that Marvel was going to release Avengers 4 in theaters without a trailer. Yes, that’s how much Marvel wants to keep the plot of the film under wraps.
There are numerous theories and supposed leaks going around on the internet about what the plot of Endgame is (most of them involve time-travel). This trailer neither confirms not repudiates any of them. We get Captain and Widow vaguely discussing a plan but that’s it.
Whether Marvel will be able to stick to this level of secrecy closer to the film’s release remains to be seen. If you ask me, this trailer should be enough to get every single person on earth into theatres. Until then, we’ll always have Infinity War.
