Avengers: Endgame, the much-awaited Marvel film helmed by Russo brothers, is off to a smashing success in China. The highly anticipated Marvel film had a huge opening in China on Wednesday, two days before its big release in the US and India. According to a report by Variety, as of 2 pm on Wednesday, Avengers: Endgame has raked in $83 million - far more than any other Hollywood title to have found an audience in China. It has also crossed the opening day collection of Avengers: Infinity War.
Screenings began at midnight on Wednesday with the film already earning a whopping $28 million from ticket pre-sales. The midnight screening tally includes Avengers: Endgame screenings at 3 pm and 6 pm as well.
According to a China box office analyst, Avengers: Endgame is expected to earn a total of $95-100 million on the opening day itself, including $28 million from midnight screenings. A number that doesn’t seem to far-fetched considering how there’s still 9 more hours of opening day left.
While there’s no way of knowing exactly what’s going to happen in the 5 days following the mid-week release of Avengers: Endgame in China, predictions show that the film is expected to shatter all Chinese box-office records. Analysts have said that, from the looks of it, Avengers: Endgame should have no trouble surpassing the first-weekend box office collections of its predecessor Avengers: Infinity War.
A direct sequel of Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame is a culmination of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s 22-year long journey. Undoubtedly, its popularity has surpassed that of many iconic superhero films. On Monday, the official premiere of Avengers: Endgame resulted in a flood of emotional (and promising) reactions from the who’s who of the fraternity on Twitter.
Joel Meares, the editor-in-chief of the film and television reviewing website Rotten Tomatoes said that the fans will go “apeshit” after watching the film.
Avengers: Endgame will release in India on Friday. The film will see all superheroes unite to fight Thanos after the latter wiped out half the world at the end of Avengers: Infinity War.
