When asked about her views on the recent rape and murder of a young veterinarian from Hyderabad, actor Waheeda Rehman said that the perpetrators should have been given life imprisonment. Reacting to the news of the encounter killings of the four accused in the incident, the actor said at an event in Mumbai,
“We shouldn't follow legal procedure in such cases because when you have caught them red-handed, so why file a case against them? By doing that, you are wasting people's money. So, without any legal procedure, they should be given life imprisonment.” she added.
On Friday, 6 December, Cyberabad Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar confirmed the killing by encounter of the four accused in the case. He said that they had been killed between 3am and 6am after they allegedly tried to escape when they were taken to the scene of the crime for inspection. While the police have been lauded on social media, many have questioned the legitimacy of their actions as well.
