Varun Dhawan’s latest film Kalank failed to make a dent at the box office. Despite its star cast and elaborated sets, the film only earned Rs 74.23 crore. He shared his thoughts with fans in a video taken during his 32nd birthday, which was just a week after the film’s release. In it, the actor admits that he had difficulty dealing with Kalank’s poor performance.

He also reveals his coping strategy, which was to sweat it out with his pals in Thailand training in Muay Thai. Watch the video here:

Speaking about Kalank’s box office failure, Varun said,

“I was a little down because my latest release didn’t go the way I thought it would and it did hit me a little hard – I’ll be very honest – and I didn’t know how to react to it. A lot of people told me, ‘Don’t show it.’ I don’t know how to behave like that. Failure is a part of life. My friends, though, had my back.”

Earlier, Alia Bhatt addressed Kalank’s dismal performance saying, “I’m not going to analyse anything because I think that that’s something that is not required. Janta ki adalat sabse badi adalat hoti hai (the audience’s verdict is the most important). When the audience does not accept a film then the film should not do well. That’s just the way it is. We must accept things and try and make sure they’re not disappointed the next time.”

Directed by Abhishek Varman and produced by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions, Kalank is a love story set in the 1940s in pre-Independence India. The film stars an ensemble cast of Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, Madhuri Dixit, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditya Roy Kapur and Sanjay Dutt.
