Several celebrities descended upon Old Trafford stadium in Manchester to catch the Cricket World Cup 2019 match between India and Pakistan on 16 June. However, the one who stole the show, unsurprisingly, was Ranveer Singh. The actor, who is set to play former Indian skipper Kapil Dev in sports drama 83, was spotted bonding with cricketers and fans alike and being his usual, extra self.

Twitter seemed divided by his antics especially since some cricket fans saw them as a way him to drum up some PR for his film. Here’s what some social media users made of Ranveer’s World Cup appearance.

Comedian Atul Khatri wondered whether Ranveer confused Kapil Dev and Kapil Sharma with all his clowning around.

There were also a few who felt the match would have been just as entertaining had Ranveer not been there, perhaps even more so.

Others couldn’t seem to look beyond Ranveer’s zany outfit – the actor sported a suit with baggy checked pants, a tweed coat, Gucci scarf and oversized sunglasses. “I want... no... I NEED Ranveer Singh's sunglasses. Also, his sartorial confidence.#NotKidding” wrote film critic Baradwaj Rangan.

If anyone was wondering where Ranveer got his audacious personality from, the actor dropped a hint in a post for Father’s Day. Haters gonna hate, right?

83 is based on India’s historic win at the 1983 Cricket World Cup. Ranveer Singh essays the role of Kapil Dev in the film with Deepika Padukone playing his wife Romi Bhatia. The Kabir Khan directorial also stars Hardy Sandhu, Chirag Patil, Saqib Saleem, Pankaj Tripathi, Tahir Bhasin, Ammy Virk and Saahil Khattar. 83 releases on 10 April 2020.
