Actor Taapsee Pannu was invited to speak at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) 2019 currently on in Goa. Taapsee was part of a session titled ‘Women in Lead’ and was talking about her journey to becoming an actor in the film industry. During her talk, which was in English, someone from the audience interrupted her talk and asked her to speak in Hindi since she was a Hindi film actor, and Taapsee quite effectively handled the situation evoking cheers from her audience. Here’s what went down:
A man from the audience asked Taapsee to speak in Hindi instead of English, "Taapsee please thoda Hindi mein bol lo, kyunki Hindi filmein aap karti ho." (Taapsee, I request you to talk in Hindi, since you do Hindi films)
To this Taapsee replied, “Main toh puri Hindi mein baat kar sakti hoon” (I can totally speak in Hindi) and then asked her audience, “Accha sabko Hindi samajh mein aayegi ki nahin?” (Will everyone here understand Hindi?). When the audience responded in negative, the man persisted by asking, “So why English, you are a Hindi film actress?” and to this Taapsee’s response was, “I am a South Indian actress also, Tamil, Telugu mein baat karoon?” (I am a South Indian actress also, should I speak in Tamil, Telugu?).
Taapsee’s quick witted reply got a roaring applause from the audience. Watch the clip below:
