Actor Renuka Shahane gracefully responded to Twitter trolls who attacked her for a news headline she was mentioned in on Wednesday 8 September.

Like many Mumbaikars, Renuka was caught in the heavy rains on Wednesday and pictures of her wading through the flooded streets went viral. When one website posted the pictures with the headline, “Mumbai rains didn't even spare actress Renuka Shahane who had to wade through water” netizens started attacking not just the publication but Renuka as well.

At first Renuka agreed with criticism of the headline but then the trolling got more vicious. However she kept responding in good spirit and others came to her defense as well.

Writer Nandita Iyer shared the article, saying, “I mean she’s a lovely actor and all that but why would the rains spare her?”

Renuka replied with, “Thanks Nandita I agree. I'd rather the silly headlines spare me though.”

“I agree....as if I was expecting some kind of special treatment from the rain and it was shocking that it rained on me despite my being just like every other human being ever born. Who do they think I am?” she wrote in another tweet.

“You're wonder woman” fellow actor Richa Chadha replied.

Some of her funnier responses were in Marathi.

Earlier, she had posted another photo of her in the water-logged street, with the caption, “#MumbaiSpirit in #MumbaiRains Helping each other in times of distress #Mumbaikars”
