Columnist and novelist Shobhaa De is known for her acerbic words, but she may have gone slightly overboard this time. Commenting on the late actor Sridevi’s last rites, De had a very ‘ironic’ observation.
Sridevi’s accidental death came as a shock to the entire nation. The Indian actor is billed as the first female superstar of Bollywood. A legend, she was also accorded a befitting funeral with state honours. The condolence meet saw the presence of fans and members of the film fraternity in huge numbers. As the nation mourned the icon and contemplated the pointlessness of life, trust De to conjure an inane tweet and draw attention to an inconsequential fact.
The fact that the Celebration Sports Club is very close to the late Sridevi’s apartment and hence convenient for the family, who have made an effort to let fans and well-wishers have a last glimpse of the star seems to have been lost on De.
De’s tweet has obviously invited the wrath of the Twitterati.
This one surely hit home.
