Big B, Farhan, Rekha & Tabu Pay Last Respects to Shaukat Azmi

Shaukat Azmi passed away at 91.

Theatre and film actor Shaukat Kaifi passed away at her residence in Juhu, on Friday. She was 91. Shabana Azmi’s mother, Shaukat Kaifi was the wife of noted Urdu poet and film lyricist Kaifi Azmi.

Along with her husband, she played a major role in working for Indian People's Theatre Association (IPTA) and the Progressive Writers Association (PWA). She is best known for her work in M.S. Sathyu’s Garm Hava, Muzaffar Ali’s Umrao Jaan and Sagar Sathadi’s Bazaar. She was last seen in Saathiya (2002)

Several celebrities came to pay their last respects to the actor from Amitabh Bachchan to Farhan Akhtar, Tabu, Rekha, Naseeruddin Shah and Nandita Das among others.

Javed Akhtar had told The Quint that Shaukat Azmi had been in and out of ICU at the Kokilaben Hospital, and passed away yesterday. He added that she was a like a ‘mother figure’ to him and was responsible for bringing him and Shabana Azmi together.
