A Gist About the Case

On 1 January, New Year's Eve, Anjali was hit by a grey Baleno on her two-wheeler in outer Delhi's Sultanpuri, after which her entangled body stuck under the car was dragged for several kilometres.

According to DCP (Outer Delhi) Harendra Singh, a person who had spotted the body being dragged by a Baleno car called the Kanjhawala police station (Rohini district) at 3.24 am. At around 4.11 am, the Kanjhawala police station received another PCR call, reporting that a girl's body was lying on the road.

Further investigation was conducted using the scooter number, and it turned out to belong to the victim who had been found lying on the road in the area of PS Kanjhawala. The victim's body was then sent to a hospital in Mangolpuri, and the car was traced.

Five men, in their mid-20s, were arrested in the case, and an FIR was filed under sections pertaining to rash driving, culpable homicide not amounting to murder, and death due to negligence.

As per a recent development in the case, the Delhi police arrested two more men, identified as Ashutosh and Ankush Khanna, on 6 January, who were involved in shielding the accused in connection to the case.

Ashutosh was arrested from the Budh Vihar area in northwest Delhi, while Ankush surrendered at the Sultanpuri police station the same day.

The 20-year-old was the sole breadwinner of her family comprising her five siblings, mother and grandmother.
