In the last few months there were reports that Rohit Shetty’s Simmba and Aanand L Rai’s Zero may clash at the box office. But the makers smartly managed to avert the clash, so that both the films do good business.

The king of Bollywood masala films, Rohit Shetty is back with Simmba starring Ranveer Singh and Sara Ali Khan. The trailer of the film looks promising. While it does have all the quintessential Rohit Shetty entertainment, it seems to have a serious issue at its core too.

The Aankh Maare song is already a chartbuster and the film releases on 28 December a week after Shah Rukh Khan’s Zero which hits theatres on 21 December. In a group interview Rohit Shetty explained how they managed to ensure that the films don’t hinder each other’s business.

Shah Rukh, Karan Johar and I sat together and decided, let’s not make our films clash, it will harm our businesses. Let’s release our films one week apart. We have that relation.

He goes on to explain how they planned to divide screens so that there is no clash.

“They are getting Christmas. So we decided the window between 21 to 27 (December), we will give them and come on 28 (December). Aanand L Rai is a great director, the film has enough potential to do business in one week’s time. In the second week they will have as many theatres as they want.”

On mutual grounds, we decided that single screens will come to us in the second week and we will divide multiplexes. It’s all crystal clear, just to avoid these controversies.
