Try as hard as we may to decipher the ultimate purpose of life - it may eventually strike as nothing but a summation of ways in which we’d like to be remembered. Anthony Bourdain’s death may have left us fans, devastated but the celebrity chef, host, writer and an activist has also bequeathed to us a vast reserve of his worldview.
Bourdain made a case for a ‘foodie’ and a traveller as an anthropologist. Raise your hand if your travels have been shaped by his sensibility, if you’ve wandered around unfamiliar streets to find that unassuming, local haunt that he recommended, if you’ve dreamed of being as ‘rad’ as him, if you’ve been floored by his healthy irreverence, if you’ve pined to eat anywhere and anything with him, if you’ve envied him...
Thank you Tony for offering a window into your consciousness. It’s a gift that keeps giving.
