This power couple has been making headlines ever since their wedding rumours started doing the rounds. Now after a private wedding at Lake Como in Italy, Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone are finally talking about their relationship. The couple made their first red carpet appearance hand-in-hand at an award ceremony for which both of them were nominated in the Best Actor category for Padmaavat. Ranveer walked away with the award for playing Khilji. But the highlight of the night was Ranveer’s speech, which left Deepika teary-eyed.

In a group interview, when Ranveer SIngh was asked about that emotional moment the actor opened up about how he had always wanted to kiss his wife before accepting the Best Actor award.

I had always had this vision that one day my wife will be sitting next to me and in my vision my wife has always been Deepika. She will be sitting next to me and my name will be called for Best Actor and I’ll turn around and give her a kiss and that’s exactly what happened that night. They called my name, I gave her a kiss and then I went up, and whatever was coming to me in that moment, I said.

The actor thanked his wife for keeping him grounded and centred in the last six years. In the interview he said, “I have been working as a professional actor in the industry for eight years, out of that six years I have been dating Deepika. So whatever I have achieved in six years, she has got a lot to do with it because she kept me centred, she kept me grounded. Otherwise who knows what I would’ve turned out to be.”

When he started dating Deepika, Cocktail had just released and she was shooting for Race.

We have seen each other grow and she is such a large part of the reason for my achievements. There is so much that I have learnt from her along the way, about professionalism, time management, discipline. I have her to thank and she got emotional because she has seen all the struggles, because that part (Khilji) was not easy for me to play.

Ranveer continues, “That year that we were shooting Padmaavat was a very emotionally funky year for the both of us, and she had witnessed my struggles with that character. So she got emotional because here was the pay off for all those struggles. I really love her.”

Deepika and Ranveer seem to be enjoying this new phase in their life and he couldn’t stop gushing as he talked about ‘marital bliss’.

She calls me asking when I am coming home, what I want for dinner. It’s really lovely. I would recommend marriage to all young people.
