Priyanka Chopra was felicitated with the Danny Kaye Humanitarian Award at the UNICEF Snowflake Ball in New York on 3 December. The actor has been working with UNICEF since 2006, and was appointed the national UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador for Child Rights in 2010 and Global Ambassador in 2016.

“Whenever people think about volunteering, it’s not about intent but action. You can think about, you can be a great person, you can empathise, but unless you do something about it, you’re still doing nothing,” she said while recalling her association with the organisation.

The award was created as a tribute to American actor, singer and philanthropist Danny Kaye, who had a long-standing association with UNICEF. He was the first ambassador-at-large of UNICEF in 1954 and received the French Legion of Honour in 1986 for his years of work with the organisation.

Apart from her work in India, Priyanka has visited refugee children in different parts of the world, including Bangladesh, Zimbabwe, Ethiopia and Sudan.

When the news that she will be felicitated with the award was announced in June, Priyanka took to social media to thank UNICEF and said that she was “incredibly humbled” with the honour.

Priyanka was last seen opposite Farhan Akhtar in Shonali Bose’s The Sky Is Pink. The actor has also teamed up with comedian Mindy Kaling for a film based on Indian weddings.
