The 20th edition of the International Indian Film Academy Awards kicked off late in the evening on 18 September. Bollywood celebrities walked the red carpet at IIFA 2019, which was actually a green carpet, looking their glamorous best.
Among those gracing the ‘green’ carpet were Alia Bhatt, Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor, Ayushmann Khurrana, Katrina Kaif and many others. The actors also spoke to the media at the event and some also voiced their support for protecting Aarey forests.
Ayushmann Khurrana, who also hosted the event, added, “I’m all for environement. I think we should preserve it. Aarey are the lungs of Mumbai and we should save Aarey.”
Salman Khan too, arrived at the event, with Mahesh Manjrekar’s daughter, Saiee Manjrekar who is making her debut with Dabangg 3. Salman said at the event that even Sonakshi Sinha made her debut at IIFA a few years ago and now Saiee is also doing it. Talking about his film with Sanjay Leela Bhansali, he said, “Inshallah isn’t happening for now, but something else will.”
At the IIFA Awards, Raazi bagged the award for Best Film, while Sriram Raghavan took the award for Best Director for Andhadhun. The most awaited awards of the day - Best Actor (Male) and Best Actor (Female) went to Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt respectively.
