Kareena Kapoor Khan, who is gearing up for her upcoming film Good Newwz, says that playing the character of a pregnant woman in the film did remind her of her own pregnancy. The film also stars Akshay Kumar, Kiara Advani and Diljit Dosanjh in prominent roles.

Did playing a pregnant woman in Good Newwz remind you of your pregnancy days?

Kareena Kapoor: Every day I had to wear the pregnancy stomach because of the different phases shown in the film – three months, six months and then nine months. So that time we had to wear… they made like a swimsuit of a belly. It was made with prosthetics. We made it in London and we had to wear that swimsuit under the clothes every day and it looked so natural.

It has the naval and everything, so when you see it on-screen it looks natural for both me and Kiara. So that was like, because I’d forgotten what was it like to be pregnant. This was pregnancy without the parathas. That was pregnancy with the parathas. I used to eat 5-10 parathas a day. Now I eat 1. This time we were shooting in Chandigarh. I ate 2. In excitement that I am shooting for Lal Singh Chaddha with Aamir, I thought let me eat one more with white butter on it. Because I love it. I am a foodie.

Tell us a little about the time when you were pregnant and the kind of conversations you had with your doctor. Were you really worried about your pregnancy?

Kareena Kapoor: I was a hypochondriac, but I enjoyed my pregnancy. But I’m generally a hypochondriac. I was asking my doctor 100 questions. Every day there was one question, till the time he would be like, ‘Listen now there’s nothing to ask. Just relax’. So of course, it was the first-time pregnancy, though my sister was always with me and she’s a phone call away and she would always guide me. My doctor used to tell me that come and weigh yourself. Because you are 20 kgs overweight. Stop eating so much. I was like, ‘This is my only chance’. So he was like, ‘You have gone mad’.

In Bollywood we have seen how they show women in labour. It is very scary. Haven’t you seen that? Don’t you think we over dramatise things and just scare women?

Kareena Kapoor: No. Of course, in Hindi films a little exaggeration is allowed. But in this film, we try to show it as it would be as much. Of course, labour pains also differ, you know, differ from person to person. Like my mother was in 24 hours labour with me. So she’s really been through that with me.

And you?

Kareena Kapoor: I actually had to have a Caesarean delivery because his head was down. He had already turned very fast. So, he was ready to come out, it was very low. I was very hyper. I was getting anxiety during the labour so they had to perform a C-section. I think with women, sometimes you know, it depends because maybe you know you do get like anxiety. Like I would get extra anxious. Maybe I would scream I don’t know, but yeah, maybe a little exaggeration is done. Of course, not denying that.
