Having finished shooting for the final season of HBO’s Game of Thrones, actor Emilia Clarke bid farewell to Westeros in a heartfelt Instagram post.
Many of her costars, including Lena Headey (Cercei Lannister), John Bradley-West (Samwell Tarly) and Jason Momoa (Khal Drogo), were quick to comment, sharing their emotions at the end of the show and saying their nostalgic goodbyes.
Emilia also posted a photo of herself with costars John Bradley-West and Conleth Hill, and show co-creator D.B. Weiss. She expressed her gratitude to her fellow artists, and her sadness that the show is over.
Meanwhile, the rest of the cast has also been bracing themselves for the end of the show. Sophie Turner, who plays Sansa Stark, actually inked a tattoo of a wolf on her arm, coupled with the phrase “The pack survives” to pay tribute to House Stark and its direwolves.
Likewise, in an interview last year, Kit Harington (better known as John Snow) revealed that he cried while reading the show’s final script.
Emilia has also shared how she felt shooting the final scenes of Khaleesi, indicating that the character’s behaviour at the end may come as a surprise to some.
Considering that creator George R.R. Martin has us waiting for two whole years, there really is a lot at stake for the last season. But if everyone’s favourite Mother of Dragons herself found the end surprising, it seems like it won’t disappoint us.
Brace yourselves: Winter is coming in 2019.
