Everytime you think of Juhi Chawla, you remember her wide smile and amazing comic timing but then you realise that you don’t see her on screen that often. However, she will appear on the big screen in Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga and we caught up with her as she spoke about doing movies selectively and that roles for women have truly changed.

When asked about the fact that her fans miss her she laughed and said, “Whenever I do a film, I do a damn good one okay, whether it was Chalk and Duster or whether it was Gulaab Gang or whether it was Son of Sardaar which was a fun, mad comedy. Where were all of you? How come you didn’t come to see at least two of those three films?”

She adds that good roles for someone like her are limited. “So when something nice does come up, I’m most excited and I come happily to work in it. But I do wait for a while to see where is that lovely film to do,” she says.

What she does agree with is that there has been a sea change in the kind of roles that women are being offered. “I can see it very clearly from the 90’s to the 2000’s or the early 2000’s, you always played the good little girl who you take home to mummy. But today you have girls, or films actually, not girls… I’d just say films which are may be more liberal or whatever. So that’s happened but that is the way may be things have moved in society.”

Also like I mentioned earlier, Juhi is also known for her superb comic timing, but she credits it to her writers. “If the scene is actually written in a fun, funny way, I just enjoy it and perform it. And somehow it turns out that way, it turns out fun. But what I’m saying is that I don’t know the technique to it, I just know it’s funny when it’s written so I have to give credit to whoever has written it. When it’s not written well enough and then you say now you do something out of it, I’m like now what do I do!,” concluded Juhi.

Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga releases on February 1.
