According to Daily Mirror, Sheeran raised eyebrows during the event when he breached a royal protocol. No one is allowed to touch the royals, but Sheeran touched Prince Charles’ arm while receiving the honour. Not that the prince reacted.

It’s a huge honour for the 26-year-old, who incidentally visited India only last month. While his latest album Divide secured the top position on the charts for more than 15 weeks, the newly re-worked Perfect with Beyonce is expected to become his next No.1. Sheeran won a Grammy Award last year.

According to The Independent, Sheeran has worked with a range of charities including East Anglia's Children's Hospices, an organisation he supports as an ambassador and has the Duchess of Cambridge as its royal patron.
