Deepika Padukone has been the only member of the Padmavati team who has unabashedly made public statements on the controversy, refusing to be cowed into silence or making placatory comments. And now the actor has reiterated the need for the government to protect films and filmmakers.
In an interview to Filmfare, Deepika commented on how people from the film industry are held to ransom no matter what the issue was, and how that needs to stop.
She also talked about the amount of research gone into creating Padmavati. “When you pick up one line from a chapter and turn it into a beautiful story, it's exciting. Her journey, her sacrifice for her honour, for her people, for the honour of the Rajputs... the story needed to be told," she said.
Deepika also opened up on her relationship with rumoured beau Ranveer Singh.
