As the decade draws to a close, social media is flooded with the greatest actors and films that Bollywood and other regions have blessed us with. Film Companion came up with a comprehensive list of both, honouring flawless performances, brilliant scripts and overall, great cinema.
Anupama Chopra recently hosted a chat show wherein some of the actors from the list - Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt, Deepika Padukone, Manoj Bajpayee, Ayushmann Khurrana, Vijay Sethupathi, Vijay Devarakonda and Parvathy Thiruvothu - came together to look back at the decade gone by, express opinions about their films and also the changing times. But do you know the funniest thing that happened? Alia has no clue about how to pronounce Joaquin Phoenix!
Watch the clip at 24:13 here:
While speaking about grey characters, Alia Bhatt said that she is a selfish actor and she chooses characters that she wants to play. “I have to give vent to my selfish needs. I want to play a character for the heck of playing it. I don’t care whether she is a serial killer, abusive lady, a demure chick who goes mad etc. I want to play those because I can’t be these characters in real life,” Alia says.
She then cites Joker’s example but cannot pronounce the lead actor Joaquin Phoenix’s name. “Despite the controversy, there was a beautiful performance by ....,” Alia trails off and the others burst out laughing. Immediately, Ranveer points at Deepika.
He also kisses her on her shoulder and she “slaps” him hard. “That was a really hard slap,” Ayushmann says, eliciting more laughter.
Ranveer suggests even Deepika can’t pronounce Joaquin’s name, to which the Padmaavat actor replies, “Such a liar!”
The banter continues when Alia refers to the actor as “Mr Joaquin Phoenix.” “Will you call Ayushmann Mr Ayushmann?,” Deepika asks and trust Ranveer to have a witty reply ready.
“Ayushmann is a genre by himself,” Ranveer says. Watch the video for more such moments.
