India’s second lunar mission, Chandrayaan-2, was launched on Monday, 22 July, from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, a week after the lift-off was terminated due to a technical glitch.
As GSLV Mk-III launch vehicle, also known as ‘Bahubali’, took off from the launchpad in Andhra Pradesh, celebrities took to social media to congratulate the team of scientists at the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) on a successful mission.
Akshay Kumar and Taapsee Pannu lauded the team behind the Chandrayaan 2 mission. The actors will be seen in Mission Mangal, which is based on ISRO’s Mars orbiter mission Mangalyaan which was launched in 2013.
Shah Rukh Khan cheered the team on their success with a reference to ‘Chand Taare Tod Lau’, a song from his 1997 film Yes Boss. “Chaand taare todh laoon. Saari duniya par main chhaoon [a refere! To do that requires hours and hours of painstaking work and integrity and belief. Congratulations to the team at ISRO for Chandrayaan 2,” he tweeted.
Baahubali star Prabhas said that it was an “honour for the entire Baahubali team” that the rocket shares its name with the popular film franchise.
Reflecting on the fact that India has witnessed a historic moment, Karan Johar also gave a nod to Muthyya Vanitha and Ritu Karidhal, the two women in charge of the mission.
