Kesari-star Akshay Kumar has denied reports that he will contest the 2019 Lok Sabha elections from New Delhi for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The same reports had also suggested that he would be contesting against Congress party veteran Ajay Maken.

  • On Monday morning 22 April, Akshay put out a tweet saying, “Getting into an unknown and uncharted territory today. Doing something I have never done before. Excited and nervous both. Stay tuned for updates.” This led many of his fans to speculate that Akshay may be entering politics, as the actor has campaigned for the BJP and supported Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the past.

Now, Akshay has cleared the air, saying, “ Grateful for all the interest shown in my previous tweet but just clarifying in light of some wild speculation, I am not contesting elections.”

Earlier, Mumbai Mirror editor Meenal Baghel had tweeted, .@DeepalTrevedie has big news: actor @akshaykumar likely to contest against @ajaymaken for the BJP from New Delhi. His Canadian citizenship is honourary so no impediment in contesting elections.” Deepal is an editor for the Ahmedabad Mirror.

So, there you go. Akshay has completely denied contesting elections and that should put a rest to the speculation, for now.
