Following the dastardly Pulwama attack on 14 February, which led to the deaths of 40 CRPF jawans, actor Akshay Kumar had vouched to “show homage” and “support” to the slain martyrs, and in a good gesture - contributed Rs 15 lakh to the wife of Jeet Ram Gurjar of Sundrawali village in Bharatpur.

According to the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) deputy inspector general (DIG) Jagdish Narayan Meena, the entire amount was transferred to Gurjar’s family under the actors trust - ‘Bharat Ke Veer’, Hindustan Times reported.

Gurjar, who was the only earning member in his family, had left behind his wife, two minor daughters, his parents - Radhey Shyam and Gopa Devi - and a younger brother. Speaking to the newspaper, Gurjar’s younger brother, Vikram Singh, said:

“We are very poor. Jeet was the only earning member of the family. This help has come at a time when the family needed it the most.”

Adding to this, Vikram said that were it not for this money, the family would not have a house to live in.

Kumar’s generosity follow up on a promise he had made earlier, after the Pulwama attack on 14 February. Speaking about Pulwama, Kumar had said:
