Brett Lee’s Foray Into Movies Is With a Bollywood Style Rom-Com

The last we saw Brett Lee on Indian television was with Asha Bhosle singing “Haan main tumhara hoon, tumhara hi rahunga” in his slippery Hindi. It was an adorable album and a long overdue gift for his second favourite country after Australia.
After his not-so-grand foray into Bolly-town, we saw him attending award functions, expressing love for Preity Zinta’s dimple(s) and treading in Steve Waugh’s footsteps as he did charity work.
After retiring from mainstream cricket, he indulged in the finer pleasures of life, like travelling and working on consolidating his band Six and Out.
Lee kept getting Bollywood offers, but he brushed them softy away, each time with a gentler nudge:
I got a couple of Bollywood offers, but I wasn’t ready. I was still playing cricket. Then this Australian movie came across the desk. I had a look at it and loved the script, loved what it stood for, and I thought, this would be a good chance to do my first movie. So why not?

This Bollywood style romantic comedy named unINDIAN is produced by the Australia India Film Fund. Lee plays a teacher who introduces migrant students to the basics of language and Australian culture.
There’s about 119 scenes, which is pages and pages of dialogue. To try and memorise that, I thought I had absolutely no chance of doing that. I thought the acting part would be easier. But when I looked back after completing the movie, the dialogue came easier. When you’ve read it so many times and you’re in the moment, you know the scenes back to front.

Lee’s love interest is played by Tannishtha Chatterjee, an Indian actress who has worked extensively in international projects such as Anna Karenina and Shadows of Time. She was last seen sharing screen space with Madhuri Dixit in Gulaab Gang.
The trailer looks fun. Let’s hope the movie hits Indian screens soon. It releases country-wide in Australia on October 15th.
