This Friday, Bollywood had two very different fares on offer at cinemas near you - Alankrita Shrivastava’s fiesty Lipstick Under My Burkha and Sabbir Khan’s potboiler Munna Michael. While makers of the former were confident enough of their film to hold press screenings over 4 days in advance, the guys behind Munna Michael rightly thought that it would be a good idea to not show their film to the press at all.
Lipstick Under My Burkha got rave reviews, while Munna Michael was trashed by critics. Here’s a look at the opening day figures of both these films.
While Ratna Pathak Shah and Konkona Sensharma’s Lipstick Under My Burkha (LUMB) made Rs 1.2 crore at ticket windows, Tiger Shroff and Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s Munna Michael collected Rs 6.65 crore.
On the face of it, it looks like Munna Michael has had a better first day run than LUMB - but remember that the Prakash Jha - Alt Balaji production has just opened in a mere 400 screens while the Eros International film was released in 3000 screens.
With all the excellent reviews and positive word of mouth that LUMB is generating, the film’s collections could see a jump over the weekend. In the long run, this ‘lady-oriented’ film could well be a winner overtaking Tiger Shroff’s Munna Michael.
