After Karni Sena chief, Lokendra Singh Kalvi threatened to chop off Padmavati actress Deepika Padukone’s nose if the film is released, Union Minister Uma Bharti softened her stance and condemned the misplaced scorn.
The Karni Sena chief said, “Don’t provoke us. We’ll cut off her nose as soorpanaka’s nose was cut off…. Sanjay Leela Bhansali is known for distorting historical facts. He got money for this film from Dubai. We will not let it release. Don’t provoke us, we’ll start a Bharat Bandh.”
Without naming anyone, Bharti went on to point the hypocrisy between respecting ‘Padmavati’ and ridiculing and threatening the actress essaying her role in the film. She expressed her trust in the CBFC to release the film with appropriate censorship, keepin in mind the sentiments of the people affected by it. Bharti puts the blame squarely on the shoulders of the director and the writer of the film.
She had earlier suggested that the makers of the film Padmavati engage with those opposing the movie to end the controversy surrounding it. She had said, “I stand firm. No non-sense with Indian woman’s pride – past, present or future.”
