The tiff that Sunny Deol had on the sets of 1993 Yash Raj Films thriller Darr has been much talked about. Now, in a recent interview, the Gadar star has revealed that he didn’t speak to his co-star Shah Rukh Khan for 16 years after working on the film together.

In a clip from an upcoming episode of Aap Ki Adalat, host Rajat Sharma asks Sunny why everyone from the producers of Darr to his co-stars were rumoured to have been afraid of him. “Perhaps it’s because they knew they were wrong,” he said.

Directed and produced by Yash Chopra, Darr is a psychological thriller in which Shah Rukh Khan plays an obsessed lover. It earned the actor critical acclaim and spawned one of his best-known dialogues, “I love you K... K... K... Kiran”. Rishi Kapoor and Jackie Shroff had initially been approached to play the hero and Aamir Khan and Ajay Devgn were offered the part of the villain. Sunny Deol was eventually given a choice and decided to play the protagonist. The film also starred Juhi Chawla, Anupam Kher and Dalip Tahil.

In an earlier interaction with Inuth, Sunny had explained that he had been upset that the villain, played by SRK, had been glorified in the film. “End of the day, people loved me in the film, they loved Shah Rukh Khan as well. My only issue with the film was that I never knew they would glorify the villain,” he said.

“Unfortunately, we have many actors, stars who don’t function in this manner. May be that’s the way they want to get their stardom, but that doesn’t stop us from working. Heroism should basically be backed by truth, but unfortunately, we don’t consider that as heroism,” he added.
