Ranveer Singh starrer Simmba, backed by Reliance Entertainment, Rohit Shetty Picturez and Dharma Productions, has become the biggest Bollywood box office earner for all three production houses by collecting Rs 350 crore globally in 16 days since its release.
After two weeks at the box office, the Ranveer Singh-Sara Ali Khan starrer Simmba earned a total of Rs 212.40 crore, trade analyst Taran Adarsh shared in a series of tweets on Friday 11 January.
Earlier, Simmba had earned Rs 202.83 crore despite mixed reviews. “Shows solid hold on weekdays, which indicates it won’t slow down soon,” tweeted trade analyst Taran Adarsh.
Adarsh observed that the film hit Rs 50 crore on day 3 and earned Rs 150 crore at the end of the first week. Simmba also makes director Rohit Shetty the first in the history of Bollywood to deliver eight consecutive Rs 100 crore-grossing hits at the Indian box office.
Shetty, who is happy the film is "roaring globally", feels the success not only belongs to him but also to fans and the fraternity as a whole.
"It feels incredible to see the excitement and fabulous response of the audience for 'Simmba' in cinema halls everywhere. I am very happy with the appreciation the film is garnering," he said.
Karan Johar said Dharma Productions is proud and ecstatic with Simmba.
Simmba is one of the few big ticket films of 2018 to see success. Others titles like Aamir Khan’s Thugs of Hindostan and Shah Rukh Khan’s Zero were poorly received despite their huge budgets and star cast.
The film revolves around Sangram Bhalerao, a flamboyant, corrupt policeman who has a change of heart when violence touches someone close to him. Simmba also stars Sara Ali Khan and features cameos by Ajay Devgn; members of the Golmaal cast Arshad Warsi, Tusshar Kapoor and Shreyas Talpade; and Akshay Kumar.
