Unlike several other big ticket films of 2018 that failed to make much of a splash in the box office despite wielding star power, Ranveer Singh and Sara Ali Khan’s Simmba has had a roaring premiere.
According to trade analyst Taran Adarsh, the film crossed the Rs 100 crore mark over New Year’s Day following a promising opening weekend. He observed that this is Ranveer’s fourth film to have achieved this milestone.
Simmba continues to do roaring business, raking in Rs 139.03 crore on day six.
As of 31 December, collections totalled to Rs 96.35 crore.
The film saw an above average opening weekend in India with box office collections totalling to Rs 75.11.
Adarsh has also noted that the film seems to have done well internationally too, having earned a total of Rs 24.22 crore over its first two days in overseas markets such as USA-Canada, UAE, UK and Australia.
Noting that the film was doing especially well in Mumbai, Adarsh had earlier tweeted, “#Simmba roars on Day 2… While Mumbai circuit is exceptional, the other circuits that were slightly low on Day 1 have also picked up… Growth on Day 2 [vis-à-vis Day 1]: 12.60%… Expected to score big numbers today… Fri 20.72 cr, Sat 23.33 cr. Total: ₹ 44.05 cr. India biz.”
Simmba started on a solid note in the box office despite mixed reviews. The Rohit Shetty film, which revolves around Sangram Bhalerao, a flamboyant cop, who’s in the trade for the money till he undergoes a change of heart after violence touches someone he loves.
Simmba has turned out to be Ranveer’s biggest opening till date, ahead of even Padmaavat which earned Rs 19 crore on day one. Simmba raked in Rs 20.72 crore on the first day. The film is doing especially well in the Mumbai circuit, according to Adarsh.
