Post Kabir Singh, Shahid Kapoor has been at work training for his upcoming sports film Jersey, in which he plays a cricketer. The actor posted a video of himself prepping for his role. Dressed in cricket whites, he scores a boundary. His batting got a thumbs up from brother Ishaan Khatter who commented on his post with, “Shoooooooooooootttttttttt!”

Shahid had earlier posted a photo of himself at the nets. While speaking to the media about preparing for the role, he revealed that he used to play cricket when he was in school. “I used to think that I am a really good cricketer because I used to open the innings for my school as a batsman. I forgot the fact that there has been a long gap when I haven't played cricket,” he said.

He explained that he has been busy trying to hone his cricketing skills. “It's fun to play cricket but when you are playing cricket in a film, you need to get the technique right and you need to give a lot of time to it, so I am trying my best to give it as much time, because I think we are in a time where authenticity is very important,” he said.

He added, “I don't think as an actor you can get away without being very convincing about playing a sportsperson. I am trying my best to get as close as I can. I am padded up and I am practicing every day with the season ball and with all the gear.”

Jersey is a remake of a Telugu sports drama of the same name, which released in April and stars Nani and debutant Shraddha Srinath. It is the story of a talented cricketer who quits the sport after failing to make it to the Indian cricket team. He returns to the game in his late thirties driven by the desire to represent the Indian cricket team and fulfil his son's wish for a jersey as a gift. The Hindi version will be directed by Gowtham Tinnanuri, who also helmed the original. It also features Batla House actor Mrunal Thakur. The film is scheduled to release on 28 August, 2020.
