Director Aanand L Rai has announced his next production, an “epic action drama” titled Laal Kaptaan – which, till now, was known as Hunter. While many details of the film are still under wraps, it will feature Saif Ali Khan who will play a naga sadhu.
The makers have also released the first poster from Laal Kaptaan that reveals part of Saif’s look. He can be seen sporting dreadlocks with his face smeared in ash.
The Navdeep Singh directorial is set in a “tumultuous era of Indian history” and will be a story of drama, revenge and deceit. The makers have promised grand visuals and, according to producer Sunil Lulla, Managing Director - Eros International, “a larger-than-life landscape, dramatic characters and a gripping story that makes it a first of its kind”.
Producer Aanand L Rai said in a statement, “Laal Kaptaan is that kind of film that is definitely going to generate a genre and narrative style of its own.”
In an earlier interview with DNA, Saif had said that the film was his most ambitious till date. “It’s about a fight between two brothers and my character, who’s almost like an animal, fights for his rights,” he explained. He also reportedly had to train in sword fighting for the role.
Saif Ali Khan will also be seen in Jawaani Jaaneman, which reunites him with his Hum Saath Saath Hain co-star Tabu after 20 years. He also has a role in Ajay Devgn’s period drama Taanaji: The Unsung Warrior, based on the historic Battle of Sinhagad.
Laal Kaptaan has been produced by Eros International and Colour Yellow Productions, and releases on 6 September.
