Akshay Kumar's latest release Mission Mangal has earned Rs 193.14 crore at the box office since hitting theatres on 15 August. This makes the film, which is based on the Indian Space Research Organisation’s (ISRO) 2013 Mars Orbiter Mission, Akshay's highest grosser. Mission Mangal is also Akshay's highest opener till date, having collected Rs 29.16 crore on its first day, surpassing his last Independence Day release Gold (Rs 25.25 crore).
Prior to Mission Mangal, Akshay's 2018 action film 2.0, in which he starred opposite Rajinikanth, was his highest earner with a box office collection of Rs 185.89 crores.

After a promising opening day and a box office collection of Rs 97.56 crore on its first weekend, Mission Mangal continued to do strong business, hitting one milestone after another. It crossed Rs 50 crore in three days and surpassed Rs 100 crore in its first week. According to trade analyst Taran Adarsh, Mission Mangal is the fastest Akshay Kumar film to reach Rs 150 crores.
Directed by Jagan Shakti and produced by R Balki, Mission Mangal is inspired by ISRO's Mars Orbiter Mission, or Mangalyaan, which was launched in 2013 making India the first Asian nation to reach Mars’ orbit and the first in the world to do it in it inaugural try. The film also stars Vidya Balan, Taapsee Pannu, Sonakshi Sinha, Kirti Kulhari, Nithya Menen and Sharman Joshi.
