Veteran matinee idol Biswajit Chatterjee joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in New Delhi on Monday in the presence of party general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya and other senior leaders.
Former Trinamool Congress General Secretary Shanku Deb Panda too crossed over to the BJP.
The 83-year-old Biswajit is likely to contest the Lok Sabha elections from any parliamentary constituency in West Bengal, where the BJP has been looking for some prominent faces.
He is the second actor to join the BJP after Moushumi Chatterjee, who pitched her lot with the saffron party last month.
He had contested the 2014 general elections from New Delhi as a Trinamool candidate against Congress' Ajay Maken and BJP spokesperson Meenakshi Lekhi, but finished 7th, securing only 909 votes.
Legendary rock band Queen is all set to perform live at the Oscars this weekend, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) announced on Monday 18 February. The performance will be representing Best Picture nominee Bohemian Rhapsody, which tells the story of late Queen frontman Freddie Mercury.

In the wake of the Pulwama terror attack, Kartik Aaryan's Luka Chuppi and Diljit Dosanjh's Arjun Patiala will not release in Pakistan. Producer Dinesh Vijan announced on Tuesday via a statement that he has cancelled a contract with the Pakistan distributor of the films, and that his banner Maddock Films will not be releasing Luka Chuppi, Arjun Patiala and Made in China in the territory.
The news comes a day after the makers of Total Dhamaal said they would not release the comedy entertainer in Pakistan.
Luka Chuppi will hit the screens on 1 March and Arjun Patiala, a romantic comedy directed by Rohit Jugraj, will release on 3 May.
German fashion legend Karl Lagerfeld has passed away in Paris at the age of 85. The creative director for Chanel and Fetti, Lagerfeld had reportedly missed several fashion shows, including Chanel’s haute couture show in Paris in January - leading to many speculations about his health. His death is being mourned by members of the fashion world, including Donatella Versace, Victoria Beckham and Gigi Hadid.
