Give Girls a Chance at Everything, Urges Priyanka Chopra

Priyanka Chopra, who features in a Youtube video launched on International Day of the Girl Child on Thursday, says girls must be given a chance to follow their dreams and they will do everything.

The video is aimed at generating awareness around the importance of girls' education in India.

As part of a mission to give everyone a voice and show them the world, YouTube, along with Priyanka, Bhuvan Bam, Prajakta Koli, and Vidya Vox will be releasing a series of ads to highlight the importance of educating girls.

Among a series of four ads running over the next several weeks, Priyanka, a globally acclaimed actress and Unicef Goodwill Ambassador, is breaking common stereotypes girls are used to hearing in the country today.

Salman Khan to Launch Own Gym Equipment Range

Salman Khan, is all set to launch his own gym equipment range, contributing in his way to the Fit India movement.

The actor, who has inspired several younger actors to work towards a muscular body and fitter frame, already manages his clothing, jewellery, and E-cycle brands under the Being Human umbrella. The gym equipment range will be launched under a new line, read a statement.

Shekhar Kapur Makes Short film on Water Crisis

Shekhar Kapur's Paani might not have seen the light of the day, but that hasn’t deterred him from making a film on water crisis.

The filmmaker has collaborated with WaterAid to create a short animation Brides of the Well, adapted from a story written by Kapur himself. It highlights water scarcity issues and how it impacts on women and girls globally, read a statement.

Narrated by Bend it like Beckham star Parminder Nagra, Brides of the Well tells the story of Saraswati and Paras, who are forced into child marriage and a life of servitude, centred around walking long distances to collect water for their aging husbands. It launched on Thursday to mark the International Day of the Girl.

Though fictional, Kapur's film highlights the plight of young girls across India who -- like those depicted in his animation movie -- are bound to a life dominated by walking long distances to collect water.

Asha Bhosale Records Bengali Durga Puja Song After 23 Years

Singer Asha Bhosle has released “Ebar Pujoy Elaam Phire" on the occasion of Durga Puja after a 23-year hiatus. The song is part of the album “Pujoy Asha”.

Bhosle recorded around 66 Bengali puja songs with her late husband, composer R.D. Burman. “It took time to convince her as she had stopped singing Bengali Puja songs after Pancham da's (R.D. Burman) death," Shiladitya Chaudhury, one of the composers of the album, told IANS.

Walt Disney Studios has shared the first look from the upcoming remake of the popular 1992 animated film Aladdin.

I Was Falsely Accused: Johnny Depp on Domestic Abuse Controversy

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, actor Johnny Depp said that he has been “falsely accused”, with reference to the allegations of physical and emotional abuse that his ex-wife Amber Heard has levelled against him.

Following these accusations, his casting in the film Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald was questioned. "I'll be honest with you, I felt bad for J.K. having to field all these various feelings from people out there. I felt bad that she had to take that. But ultimately, there is real controversy," Depp said, according to reports by PTI.

"The fact remains I was falsely accused, which is why I'm suing The Sun newspaper for defamation for repeating false accusations. J.K. has seen the evidence and therefore knows I was falsely accused, and that's why she has publicly supported me. She doesn't take things lightly. She would not stand up if she didn't know the truth. So that's really it," he added.

Pakistan Film Producers Association Calls for Ban on Indian Films

The Pakistan Film Producers Association (PFPA) has demanded a complete ban on the release of Indian films in the country.

Chaudhry Ejaz Kamran, a senior official in the PFPA, said when Pakistani films are not screened in India, why should they screen Indian films here.

"We have to think seriously about this because true our distributors and exhibitors make money from screening Indian films but in the long run it is hurting the growth of our industry," Kamran told PTI .

The demand for a complete ban on release of Indian films comes at a time when in recent months a number of Indian films have been barred from screening in Pakistani cinema houses due to different reasons.

The films banned from release in Pakistan include "Padman", "Veere Di Wedding", "Mulk" and "Raazi", among others.

Rakeysh Om Prakash Mehra Appears in Court in Copyright Case

Film maker Rakeysh Om Prakash Mehra was Friday granted bail by a court here in connection with a copyright violation case related to Bollywood movie "Rang De Basanti".

Mehra appeared before a court at Aurangabad in Maharashtra after a resident of the city alleged that Mehra's 2006 film "Rang De Basanti", starring Amir Khan, was based on his story.

Last month, the court had issued a bailable warrant against Mehra for non-appearance in the case, said advocate S M Patel, who represents the complainant, according to PTI.

Singer Selena Gomez seeking treatment after emotional breakdown in hospital following "tough" few weeks.

According to the People magazine, the 26-year-old former Disney star was hospitalised twice within the last few weeks, both times for a low white blood cell count, which can be a side effect for kidney transplant patients.

"She has had a tough few weeks and the panic attack in the hospital was the tipping point. She realised she needed to seek additional help for her ongoing emotional issues. She's surrounded by close family and has a lot of support. She's doing better now and is seeking treatment on the East Coast," a source said.

According to PTI, Gomez is undergoing dialectical behaviour therapy, a therapy method designed to help try to identify, and then change, negative thinking and behavioral patterns, the source added.

Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas are reportedly tying the knot in November in Jodhpur. According to Filmfare, Priyanka will be having her bridal shower in New York City in October which will be followed by the grand wedding ceremony at Umaid Bhawan in with around 200 guests.
