After giving us hit gangster dramas like Kaante and Shootout At Wadala, Sanjay Gupta is set to bring another one on screen, titled Mumbai Saga, featuring Emraan Hashmi and John Abraham in the lead roles. Though both the actors have reprised the roles of gangsters in films like Shootout At Wadala and Once Upon A Time In Mumbai, this will be the first time the two will be featuring together in a film.
Along with Emraan and John, the film features Jackie Shroff, Prateik Babbar, Rohit Roy, Suniel Shetty, Gulshan Grover and Amol Gupte in pivotal roles. The makers released two photographs of the team of the film on Friday, announcing its name.
According to Mumbai Mirror, the movie will be set in the 1980s and 1990s and will trace the rise of Mumbai from Bombay. The plot is said to be based on real life events and revolves around incidents like shutting down of mills, nexus between politicians, cops and underworld. The film will be co-produced by Sanjay Gupta’s White Feather Productions and Bhushan Kumar’s T-Series.
"It's my third outing with John and I'm super excited to work with Emraan. I have always wanted to work with him and I am back to my base of film making -- gangster dramas and all I can say is...It's good to be home," Gupta said in a statement.
The shooting is set to start in July and will be wrapped up by year-end as the producers are eyeing a 2020 release.
The lookout for the female lead for this Emraan-John starrer is still on as the film is currently under prep. Since it’ll be shot at real-life locations in Mumbai, a team is working to recreate the era in terms of building, clothing etc. It also has several confrontation scenes between the actors.
