Deepika Padukone is set to play the role of acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal in Meghna Gulzar’s upcoming film Chhapaak. Deepika has begun script reading of their film with co-producer Gulzar and co-star Vikrant Massey.
Padukone, who is co-producing the film with Gulzar and Fox Star Studios, will reportedly stay in Delhi to understand the character better and get accustomed to the locations.
“Deepika met Laxmi in Delhi a few years back. As for the film, she is working eight hours a day to perfect the role. Besides readings with Meghna, she is also using photographs and videos of Laxmi as her reference points. The team has also collated data about other acid attack survivors to get an in-depth understanding about the subject,” Mumbai Mirror reported.
Meghna had earlier said that when she first saw pictures of Laxmi before the attack, the only person that came to her mind was Deepika. “I could not believe when Deepika agreed to play the role. To essay the role of an acid attack survivor is very difficult,” she said.
