Sushant Singh Rajput and Shraddha Kapoor’s campus comedy Chhichhore has crossed another benchmark having earned Rs 150.36 crore at the box office in its fifth week. In a year when big ticket movies such as Kalank and Student of the Year failed to make their mark, the film has proven to be “one of the biggest success stories of 2019” says trade analyst Taran Adarsh.

The Nitesh Tiwari directorial opened on 6 September to a box office collection of Rs 7.32 crore and saw a jump on day 2. According to the figures released by the producers, the film earned over Rs 12 crore on Saturday, bringing the box office total of the film over its first two days to Rs 19.57 crore. Trade analysts attributed the rise in business to positive word of mouth. The film is Sushant Singh Rajput's second highest opener after MS Dhoni - The Untold Story (Rs 21.30 crore) and almost at par with his 2018 film Kedarnath.

Chhichhore went on to have a solid run at the box office, collecting Rs 50 crore by day 5 and reaching Rs 100 crore by day 12. It is production house Fox Star Studios’ third film to cross Rs 150 crore this year after Total Dhamaal and Akshay Kumar’s Mission Mangal.

Chhichhore tells the story of a group of students who become friends after they’re assigned to the same hostel at an engineering college. They proudly wear the tag of ‘losers’ and bumble their way through campus life as they try to navigate academic and extra-curricular success, adulthood and women. Years later, the group is reunited by a tragedy which leads them to reminisce about their glory days. The film also stars Varun Sharma, Tahir Raj Bhasin, Naveen Polishetty, Prateik Babbar, Tushar Pandey and Saharsh Kumar Shukla.
